Technically a layover, we had 23 hours to experience both the touristy and overall experience of the Capital of Argentina.
It was a hectic day (and night) to say the least.
Included in the small excursion was a bit of napping as we walked around town, and some downtime to rest our feet as we traversed the city.
At around 2:30 AM at our airport side hotel, there was a cacophony outside, with a mass of people walking around. As we weren’t downtown and not expecting this, I had to go take a peek what the ruckus was about.
Luckily our flight was only in a couple hours so it wasn’t a big deal, we just packed up and headed out to Ushuaia, known as the “End of the World”.
After a multi hour flight, we landed in the gorgeous mountain laden town, a far cry from the excitement in the city.
First day we took a light hike/tour into the national park. Our luggage was held up in the US still at this point, so I decided to go shopping (for a sweet jacket, not what Zo had in mind).
The second day was more hiking-centric. At this point we learned that our tour company Intrepid Tours had botched the reservation for our boat, so we were in fact departing a day later on a different boat! On the bright side, Intrepid Tours (with Quark) ensured we got an upgrade in every way possible.
After finding out about our reservation mistake, intrepid and quark did their utmost to correct the blunder, and they delivered.
We received the rest of our gear, got an upgrade to the Ocean Diamond, and scored a stay at the Las Hayas 5 star resort. Nothing is better than completing a grueling hike to comeback to a massage and hot tub; other than maybe hoping on a boat to the 7th continent…
